- Zoom
"This training will share important skills for documenting ICE activity and supporting neighbors in your community. ICE Watch is a key strategy being used by groups across the country to protect their communities against aggressive activity by ICE agents. Practicing ICE Watch protects our neighborhoods from immigration enforcement by ensuring our community members know their rights, have a plan, and know how to act in the event of targeting by ICE. In addition to covering the basics of ICE Watch, we will discuss new analysis on ICE operations and safety guidance."

"Across the Midwest, families are living in fear, neighbors are being targeted, and our constitutional rights are being tested. In response, Brave people are rising—showing up for one another, defending their neighbors, and refusing to be silent.
"This tour will bring communities together to build collective power, grow local leadership, and train Constitution Observers who are ready to respond, protect, and act. These are not just trainings—this is a movement grounded in courage, solidarity, and shared responsibility.
"Join us. Stand with immigrant communities. Be part of a growing network committed to defending dignity, safety, and justice for all."

Recent News
Faith leaders and elected officials speak out about federal immigration enforcement in Minnesota
December 23 press conference at Shiloh Temple in north Minneapolis
"Gov. Tim Walz speculated Tuesday that an influx of federal immigration officials will be present in Minnesota during the next few weeks and suggested that the Trump administration will want to make more arrests during the holidays because that would be 'especially cruel' and 'especially mean-spirited.'
"Walz, surrounded by faith leaders and elected officials, said his administration isn’t made aware of the details of immigration raids, but Minnesotans stand by their immigrant neighbors and won’t be intimidated by President Donald Trump’s targeted campaign to increase arrests in the state.
"Though unconfirmed, the governor said Minnesotans should expect more federal agents in the streets in the coming days, as soon as Christmas Eve."
Thousands join anti-ICE march, rally for immigrants in Minneapolis
from MPR
"A diverse coalition of 46 organizations co-hosted the rally and march, which included indigenous drumming and dance.
"Demonstrators marched down Lake Street from Mercado Central to Karmel Mall, hubs for Latino and Somali businesses, and near where ICE recently clashed with activists.
"Emilia Gonzalez Avalos, executive director of Unidos MN, said business is down 80 percent for many of the shops in the area as immigrant customers — and owners — fear leaving their homes.
"Organizers encouraged demonstrators to shop at those businesses following the march."

Technology
This week's special focus
Signal
The Secure Messaging App
"Signal gives you encrypted messages, as well as voice and video calls. It relies on data, so it’s a great option for free calls and texts over Wi-Fi. This can be a huge advantage for those of us who don’t want to pay for SMS text messages and phone calls, or who want to make free international calls.
"It’s not only convenient, but security experts recommend Signal for a few different reasons. Signal is end-to-end encrypted, meaning that no one but your device and conversational partner’s device can read the messages you send..."
Proton
End-to-end encryption
"Proton Mail's end-to-end encryption and zero-access encryption ensure only you can see your emails. Not even Proton can view the content of your emails and attachments."

Tips, Tools, and How-tos for Safer Online Communications
"We’re the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a member-supported non-profit working to protect online privacy for over thirty-five years. This is Surveillance Self-Defense: our expert guide to protecting you and your friends from online spying."
Ring cameras are about to get increasingly chummy with law enforcement
Amazon’s Ring partners with company whose tech has reportedly been used by ICE
"Law enforcement agencies will soon have easier access to footage captured by Amazon’s Ring smart cameras. In a partnership announced this week, Amazon will allow approximately 5,000 local law enforcement agencies to request access to Ring camera footage via surveillance platforms from Flock Safety.
"In August, Jay Stanley, senior policy analyst for the ACLU Speech, Privacy, and Technology Project, wrote that 'Flock is building a dangerous, nationwide mass-surveillance infrastructure.' Stanley pointed to ICE using Flock’s network of cameras, as well as Flock’s efforts to build a people lookup tool with data brokers.
"Matthew Guariglia, senior policy analyst at the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), told Ars via email that Flock is a 'mass surveillance tool' that 'has increasingly been used to spy on both immigrants and people exercising their First Amendment-protected rights.'
ICE’s interest in high-tech gear raises new questions: ‘What is it for?’
The immigration agency’s surveillance tools and increased access to government databases draws privacy concerns
"Federal records show that ICE has increased its spending on surveillance technology, looking to spend more than $300 million under Trump for social-media monitoring tools, facial recognition software, license plate readers and services to find where people live and work."
We Tracked Ourselves with Exposed Flock Cameras
Flock left at least 60 of its people-tracking Condor PTZ cameras live streaming and exposed to the open internet
"Unlike many of Flock’s cameras, which are designed to capture license plates as people drive by, Flock’s Condor cameras are pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras designed to record and track people, not vehicles. Condor cameras can be set to automatically zoom in on people’s faces as they walk through a parking lot, down a public street, or play on a playground, or they can be controlled manually, according to marketing material on Flock’s website."
